PRESS RELEASE: Armed robbery suspect in custody

Farmington, NM – Farmington police apprehended the suspect in a robbery that took place around 10:40 this morning at the Family Dollar located at 909 E. Farmington Ave. The suspect fired one shot inside the store and left with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured during the incident. A person of interest was identified early on in the investigation.

At approximately 12:05 p.m. today, dispatch received a call from Great Buy Auto Sales located at 942 E. Main St. in reference to a male subject who had taken a BMW. The reporting party was able to provide dispatch with the suspect’s direction of travel. Officers located the vehicle heading east on Apache and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect turned south on Auburn ignoring officers’ attempts to stop him. The suspect continued traveling south on Auburn until he crashed into a Farmington police unit at Auburn and Maple. The suspect was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The officer was not injured.

The suspect, a 30-year-old male from Colorado, was taken into custody and transported to the police department for questioning. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
