Farmington, NM – Farmington police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Sunday morning. Officers were dispatched around 8:42 a.m. to the area of Main Street and Beckland Drive in reference to an accident. Officers learned that a Chevy Cobalt was driving through the intersection northbound to Beckland Drive when a Buick passenger car traveling west on Main Street collided with the Chevy. After the initial collision, the Buick veered right and struck the traffic signal pole at the northwest corner of the intersection. The driver of the Buick, a 49-year-old Aztec woman, was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Chevy, a 73-year-old Farmington man, received minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
