PRESS RELEASE: Farmington Police Department announces upcoming reaccreditation assessment

Public hearing will offer the community an opportunity to provide comments on FPD’s ability to comply with standards

Farmington, NM – The Farmington Police Department is proud to announce their upcoming Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies on-site assessment. The assessment will take place June 18 through the 21. During this time, a team of CALEA law enforcement executives will audit records, conduct personnel interviews and evaluate staff performance to verify FPD meets professional standards to maintain accreditation. Participation in CALEA is a voluntary process which requires law enforcement agencies to comply with over 450 state-of-the-art standards covering four basic areas: policy and procedure, administration, operations and support services. Accreditation is a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Farmington Police Department first became accredited on July 29, 1995 and has passed each of the reaccreditation assessments on July 29, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012 and most recent in 2015.

The assessment process includes a public hearing, which will take place on June 20 at 5:00 p.m. at Farmington City Hall inside council chambers located at 800 Municipal Dr. This is an opportunity for the public and FPD employees to offer comments about the department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. The hearing will be broadcast live and video recorded.
