PRESS RELEASE: Farmington man arrested for armed robbery, aggravated burglary

Farmington, NM – Farmington police were dispatched to San Juan Regional Medical Center around 1:00 p.m. on Monday in reference to a stabbing. Officers arrived and learned 33-year-old Pete Kimbell had been stabbed multiple times by 34-year-old Derek James. James and another male, whose identity is unknown, entered Kimbell’s home in the 2300 block of West Apache and attacked him. During the encounter, James punched Kimbell and stabbed him multiple times with a knife. The two men took an unspecified amount of money and jewelry from Kimbell’s residence before leaving. After the men left, Kimbell flagged down a man outside his house and requested to be taken to the hospital where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police located James at his home in Farmington. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated burglary and aggravated battery. He is being held at the San Juan County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
