PRESS RELEASE: Philanthropy at FPD

Farmington Police Department will sponsor local charities in an effort to bring awareness to their work and help generate funds.

Farmington, NM – The Farmington Police Department has decided to expand its philanthropic efforts to assist local charities. The department has been a longtime supporter of Special Olympics, but wanted to offer their assistance to additional organizations. The idea transpired after a recent discussion regarding how the department could better focus their efforts in helping charitable organizations. “If we concentrate our resources to one organization for a specified amount of time, we stand to have a greater impact on the population served by that agency,” said FPD’s Public Information Officer Georgette Allen.

FPD will provide non-monetary sponsorship for one year then will open their assistance to other organizations. Sponsorship will include planning and publicity assistance from their public information officer, in addition to the chief’s commitment to participate in fund raising events. The chief will also solicit donations during local public speaking engagements.

After researching the many organizations present in the community, FPD chose to sponsor the Hope Children’s Fund for 2015. The Hope Children’s Fund, administered by the San Juan Medical Foundation, provides assistance with food, transportation and lodging expenses for families who have a child receiving medical care outside of San Juan County. Approximately $1,000 a week in travel vouchers are given to families with children who have health needs requiring specialized care not available in the Four Corners area.

On Thursday, June 4 Chief Hebbe was the guest speaker during a Four Corners Federated Republican Women’s luncheon meeting. This was the first speaking engagement where the chief solicited funds for this year’s chosen charity. Individual members donated a total of $351. Chief Hebbe and his wife, Janet, agreed to match donations up to $200, bringing the total to $551.

The Farmington Police Department would like to thank the Four Corners Federated Republican Women for the opportunity to speak during their luncheon and for their generous donations!
