Farmington, NM – Today at approximately 9:07 a.m. Farmington police were dispatched to the area of Browning Parkway and Bloomfield Highway in reference to an aggressive driver. Several individuals called dispatch to report that a maroon passenger car was attempting to run into a black sport utility vehicle. The vehicles travelled north on Browning Parkway to Main Street and continued travelling east. An FPD community service officer was in the area of 20th Street and Main Street. CSOs may not conduct traffic stops so she moved from the road to avoid contact with the involved parties. The driver of the SUV saw the CSO parked at a nearby gas station and stopped to flag her down. The driver of the maroon vehicle also stopped and a verbal confrontation ensued between the two drivers. At this time, the driver of the maroon car reversed the vehicle, striking the CSO’s vehicle with her inside. The driver then accelerated forward and almost hit the driver of the SUV, who was standing outside of his vehicle. The driver proceeded to travel east on Main Street. Officers stopped him in the area of East Main and Hannon Road.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Head of Farmington, was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a violent felony (2 counts), a 4th degree felony; aggravated battery on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, a 3rd degree felony; reckless driving and other traffic charges. No injuries were reported.
