Farmington Police Department implemented a new operation to deter shoplifting and quickly apprehend violators on Black Friday. Operation Sticky Fingers was conducted by the District Coordinator Unit in partnership with local stores’ loss prevention personnel to help ensure a safe environment so patrons could enjoy their shopping experience.
The operation was two-fold, using targeted enforcement efforts at the city’s top four locations for shoplifting and strategic deterrent methods in four additional locations throughout the city. The operation proved to be a success with five municipal shoplifting citations issued and four arrests made. No incidents of shoplifting were reported in the four areas where deterrent methods were used.
Each of the stores that participated in the operation expressed their appreciation for FPD’s proactive stance on the busiest and most demanding shopping day of the year.
