PRESS RELEASE: Multiagency pursuit

Farmington, NM – At approximately 12:12 p.m. today Farmington police were dispatched to Scott Avenue and Broadway in reference to a subject driving recklessly. A Farmington detective was traveling behind a white Ford Ranger and observed him speeding and running lights. The detective attempted to pull the vehicle over due to the immediate threat to the public. The vehicle fled and pursuit was cancelled. The subject continued traveling toward the Bisti Highway. Patrol units were in the area setting up Stop Sticks. The subject crossed the median on the Bisti bridge to avoid the Stop Sticks and drove head-on toward a Farmington police officer before veering away. Officers initiated pursuit due to the subject’s dangerous driving and aggravated assault against an officer. The pursuit continued south on 371 toward Chaco Gas Plant onto County Road 7100. At the 3 mile marker, Motor Transportation, a division of State Police, successfully deployed Stop Sticks catching both left tires. The pursuit continued at slower speeds onto the Navajo Reservation and made its way to 7150. The San Juan County Sherriff’s helicopter responded to the area to assist. The subject pulled into the residential area of the Huerfano Chapter, stopped in front of his house and exited the vehicle. Officers gave commands for the subject to get on the ground. He then grabbed a baseball bat. Officers tased the subject and took him into custody without further incident.

State Police is charging the subject, 30-year-old Arrison Parrish with a 9th DUI, aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing, open container, tampering with an interlock, and additional traffic violations.
